At Pontal Brazil, located at 93 New York Ave. in Newark, NJ, we specialize in assisting Latin American immigrants with document-related services, including passport renewals. Below, we will walk you through the general process, the documents you need, and the fees you will pay. If you need further assistance, we’re just a call away and happy to help.

Documents You Need

To renew your Brazilian passport while living in the U.S., there are several essential documents you must have. The required documents vary depending on your age, so we will outline both cases below:

General Documents:

  • Original Brazilian birth certificate (Certidão de Nascimento)
  • Old passport (in the case of renewal)
  • 2x2 photo (standard passport photo)

For Those Under 18 Years of Age:

  • Valid passport from both parents
  • CPF of the child and both parents
  • Proof of address from one of the parents (or both, if they live together)

For Those Over 18 Years of Age:

  • CPF regular: If your CPF is irregular, we can help regularize it for you.
  • Título de Eleitor regular: We offer services to help with this process if needed.
  • Proof of address from the last month.
  • Certificado de Reservista Militar: Required if you are a male over 18.

Important note: If you do not have your old passport or another Brazilian photo ID (such as RG or CNH), you will need to visit the consulate in person and be accompanied by two witnesses with valid Brazilian passports.

Fees You Will Pay

To complete the renewal of your passport, you will need to pay a fee based on your age. These payments are made through a USPS money order, but we handle this step for our customers as part of our service.

  • Under 4 years old: $40
  • Ages 4-17: $80
  • 18 and over: $120

But you don’t need to worry about those fees, our team handles the entire process, including purchasing and filling out the money orders as part of the application.

General Steps

The passport renewal process involves completing the necessary forms on the eConsular platform, which is the Brazilian consulate’s online system. You can choose to submit your documents either by mail or in person, depending on your circumstances.

  1. Fill out the application on eConsular: Make sure all information is accurate.
  2. Prepare your documents: Ensure that all required documents are in order.
  3. Submit your application: Depending on your situation, you can either mail your documents or schedule an in-person appointment at your nearest consulate.

Need help? If any part of the process feels overwhelming, we can guide you through the entire procedure, including completing forms, regularizing your CPF or Título de Eleitor, and more.
